Every week in synagogues all over the world a section of Scripture called a Parsha is read, so that during a year's time the entire Torah is read. This week we read Parsha Pinchas (Phinehas). A few days ago, as people all around the United States celebrated Independence Day, my wife and I celebrated In-dependance Day. “Why?” you may ask. It is because we refuse to give up on the rights proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” We have just come to terms with a better understanding that while the Declaration of Independence proclaims our independence from Great Britain, it also proclaims our In-Dependence to G-D.
