First a family ... then a Nation

One of the most powerful events in the entire Bible is the exodus of the Children of Israel from Egypt. It includes some spectacular events, the Ten Plagues, the Destruction of the Egyptian Army, and The Parting of the Sea. Yet right in the middle of the narrative, we find one of the most important events in the story and yet it seems to be overlooked or at best given a minor mention as a side note. This event is vital to G-D’s plan for Israel and a key moment in understanding the broader Biblical plan for mankind. The event spoken of is found in Exodus Chapter 18 when Yitro (Jethro) Moses’ father-in-law meets Moses after they have left Egypt. Most people read these verses of Scripture and f

Having Done All, then Stand

One of my favorite verses from the Bible is also one of the most often quoted verses because it holds a promise of G-D’s deliverance and His mighty power. The verse is found in Exodus 14:13: But Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid! Stand still, and see the salvation of Adonai, which He will perform for you today. You have seen the Egyptians today, but you will never see them again, ever! Most are familiar with this verse. But for those who are not, let me lay the groundwork for you. Israel is leaving Egypt, a group of around two and a half million people, carrying all of their possessions and driving their herds toward the Red Sea. They look behind them and saw the army of Egypt closi

Satan Reached Way Back into His Bag of Tricks

This morning as I turned on my computer and opened my email account, I was greeted by an email informing me that I had been gifted 8.5 million dollars from a kind man because he had researched my ministry and all I had to do to receive these funds was to provide certain banking account information and pay a few thousand dollars in processing fees. My first response to this email was to think does anyone actually fall for this type of scam. My second response was to acknowledge that if people didn’t fall for these scams, the scammers would quit sending the emails. You may be asking yourself “where is he going with this blog?” Well, where I am going with this is that within the Body of Messiah

Drawing Closer

Recently, I was at an airport and watched with a remembering smile as a young person made the effort to walk up the down escalator. It immediately brought two memories to my mind. The first was when I was a young child and to the consternation of my mother I walked up the down escalator every time I found one. The second memory was of a statement made by one of my first biblical teachers who say that rising in our faith was like taking an escalator ride in which the lower you went (humility) the higher you rose spiritually. In other words, if you want to rise, Luke 14:11 says it this way: For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” And P

Prosperity Without Freedom is the Worst Kind of Slavery

The Bible is a book filled with blessings, teachings, words of encouragement, and warnings. Many times a single verse can carry within it each of these categories and more. One example of such a verse is Exodus 1:7: 7 Yet Bnei-Yisrael were fruitful, increased abundantly, multiplied and grew extremely numerous—so the land was filled with them. At first glance, the words of this passage can be viewed as a blessing. We read these words and see that over their years in Egypt; G-D has allowed the Children of Israel to become prosperous in every way. We can also see within the text expression of encouragement as we clearly see that the Children of Israel had seen an abundant increase both financia
