If They Really Knew Then They Wouldn’t Ask

In Matthew chapter 22, we find the Sadducees attempting to trap Yeshua (Jesus) by asking Him a loaded question about the Torah or Laws of Israel. I am not going to recount the entire event in this article, but it takes place between verses 23 and 33. As with all of the tests or traps that were attempted upon Yeshua, this one had much more meaning than a simple attempt by a leader of a religious faction trying to prove his superiority over the leader of another faction. The text begins with the words: Matthew 22:23 “On that day, Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection) came to Yeshua and questioned Him, saying,” We immediately notice two things. First, the Sadducees purposely came to Yesh

What is social justice

We live in a world which increasing focuses on social justice. We hear about it on television. It has become a regular topic of politicians. It has even become a major fixture on sports and sporting events. This is not just a good thing it is a great thing. Social Justice is something that every Bible believer no matter what persuasion they are should not only be thinking about, but they should be active supporting and promoting social justice. Social Justice is not something newly thought of by the socially aware minds of today; it is what the Bible teaches us from Genesis through Revelation. For instance in Deuteronomy 16:20 we read 20 Justice, justice you must pursue, so that you may liv

Free to be healed

In the book of Galatians, we read an amazing passage that carries with it a message of freedom far beyond what we can even imagine. On the surface, these verses may seem as if the writer of the text, Paul, is speaking about being set free from the Torah, or Law of Moses, in a way the reader might conclude that all of that Old Testament stuff has now been done away with. But, let's look at the words in context. The context of the words in these verses, chapter, book, and the context brought by its connection to the Torah. Galatians 3:13: Messiah liberated us from Torah’s curse, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)— 14 in order that through

When "If" Means "When"

Many years ago when I was in high school, our school received our very first computers. Knowing that the world slowly transforming toward being computer dependent my father insisted that I sign up for the programming class. The programing language that we learned was basic. As a matter of fact, that is what it was called, “basic”. One of the first things that we learned was called an “if then” statement. “If this”, “then this”. In other words, you were programming the computer that if it recognized a certain word or thing that it would respond in a certain way. Through these statements we could design certain simple word games and program the computer to perform simple functions. Many beli

The G-D of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob

This past Shabbat in synagogue, we read our weekly Torah Parsha, which includes the most well-known portions of Scripture in the entire Bible, especially to Jewish people. It is found in Deuteronomy 6:4-9, known in short as the Shema and VeAhavta. These verses begin with the statement: “4“Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.” These words are often spoken of as being the foundational statement of Israel and the Jewish people. For thousands of years, these words have been prayed every morning and every evening by Jewish people as a proclamation of their commitment to the One and Only True and Living G-D. There are many stories told of Jewish martyrs at their executions speaking th
